ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has started accepting applications for new gTLDs!

This means that in a few years from now there could be hundreds, if not thousands of brand new Top Level Domains for you to register.

The potential that these new TLDs give organisations has got everybody scrambling for an application form. The only problem being the astronomical cost of submitting an application!

Whichever way you look at it though this is a fantastic move for the internet. It will help us distinguish what sites are used for. .africa, .bank and .melborne. So you can know where your site is based or what industry it relates to. It will make addresses easier to remember.

You can track how many applications have been made on the ICANN Statistics page. But bear in mind each of these applicants can submit 100 new gTLDs. The current total stands at 144 Applicants.

Please let us know what you think about all the possibilities of these new gTLDs and your concerns at what could be negative about these applications.
