Most of the times people miss out checking on server loads when looking for a new web hosting provider and later complained about how slow their website load. The critical key here is server load.

What is the server load?

The number expresses how many processes are waiting in the queue to access the CPU/Processors. A high server load often means a poor performance in the server.

You can usually find the server load value in the control panel. For Cpanel, you can find it under “Service Status - Click to View”. The figure is instantly calculated by the server.

What is a high server load then? Our rule is here : if the server has a single CPU/processor, a server load higher than 1.00 is not good. Therefore if a server has 4 CPUs, a server load over 4.00 is not good and so on.

Personally, if the server load ratio is constantly over 2.0, I would ask my host to do something about the server load or move my website to a server with a lower server load. If the response is bad, I will look for a new host.
